Is What Motivating You The Wrong Thing.

Okay I was listening to some training the other day and the discussion of what makes some people continue to build a business for the recognition that they get in there company.  Most of the time these people are not at the level of success that the company makes them to appear to be.  They give them trophies and other things,  but there is no real transparency as to their success.

I was searching for a video today for my other blog and I came across this story.  It is in two videos and it well work watching.  It is quite funny.

Did you notice the story about the fact that part of the motivation to go through this was to get that little gold pin.  Seriously he could out and bought the little gold pin and not suffered through all of that.  Just for a few minutes of “cool”.

So what is motivating you, is it worth the energy that you are putting into it right now.  If so even if it makes you scream like a girl or puke and loose that “cool” status then go for it, but if not then change what you are doing, because who wants to loose their air and puke.

Food for thought for the day.  Pick what is worth working toward.   Learn how to take Massive Action.

P.S. I made a decision to live my life after watching a cheesy video.  You can too, just decide to get in now

    Gen,
This guy was hilarious! Loved the peanut butter segment… very fummy guy. I laughed quite a bit! I don’t think I ever fell for the “pin” making me feel “cool”. It’s more the service I give others and knowing I help them in some way that’s rewarding. That’s what motivates me and where I get the energy to keep doing what I’m doing.

Yeah Lesly like he says it really is a guy thing. I know though that this goes on as well in a lot of MLM companies, if you get this or that then we will give you this little trinket and people will work their tushy off for that trinket and totally miss the real benefits of having their business, which is to help others. ;)

    Gen,

I don’t think I ever looked for a “pin” or accolades or awards to prove I was cool. However, I have had the opposite experience of really providing service and receiving no acknowledgement, being bypassed when there was an opportunity to be shown appreciation. What that did is it made me instantly shift gears and focus my attention elsewhere. I will no longer put my energy into something that sucks my energy. There are so many people out there eager for the type of help that I offer and that’s where I want to be.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

Like Bill said and like I told Lesly in her comment. It really is a guy thing for the most part. But I was also referring to how a lot of MLM companies will hold up some little trinket and have their members work like dogs to get. It is there main focus, they teach them to put it on there goal boards and work their tale off for it. All the while they miss the point of what their business is about. Yes a cool reward is nice or some really awesome recognition, but at the end of the day if you are not working to somehow help others in some way, then you are missed the whole point. I know you get it. :D

    Hi Gen,
I never really focused on the trend to offer pins and certificates, because I am not the “showy” type. Means absolutely nothing to me. I received some that I saw them one time. When I took them out of the envelope. I tend to remember the pleasures of having people approach me for advice or my opinions. That is worth the efforts that I put in online.
Now that I have thought about it, gives me more reason to go for the latter.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
